Pentwyn Dynamos-v-Treforest F.C.: Sun.25th Nov. '07

Pentwyn Dynamos 1 Treforest 1
This South Wales Youth League fixture was played in front of quite a hostile and vociferous home crowd. Treforest faced a much changed Pentwyn side from their meeting a few weeks ago.
Pentwyn were first to open the score, but John Truelove's youngsters are nothing if not resilient and their efforts to keep the play on the ground with slick passing and good movement created numerous chances without much success.
After sustained pressure, the Tref. youngsters finally equalized through Jamie White, and but for some sound goalkeeping and a host of wasted opportunities Tref. could have and should have come away with 3 points.
This young team is doing well in its first season in a higher league. Well done to all the players and Management.

Treforest Youth v Ystrad Mynach Youth 11/11/07

Treforest 7 Ystrad Mynach 2

This was an impressive win for the ever improving Tref under 18s. The home side were on the score sheet on 13 minutes when Scott Badman beat two players and played an astute ball to Jamie White who slotted the ball home. The hosts were dominating the match and further goals followed from Ben James and Alex Cahill before Ystrad scored following a quick attack from flank. This did nothing to deter the home team and they responded with a 4th shortly before half time, to give a comfotable lead at lemon time.

The second half mirrored the first and Tref. continued to play lovely football at pace, resulting in 2 more goals in quick succession from James and Liam Egan. To their credit Ystrad battled on, and they scored on 65 minutes to bring the score to 6 -1.

Treforest however were not content, and on 75 minutes an excellent move started by Sam Long which involved Scott Badman and Ben James resulted in a cracking goal from Alex Egan.

Tref's manager, John Truelove was delighted with this performance after an indifferent start to this campaign, and these lads are now beginning to play some excellent football.

Merthyr Tydfil-v-Treforest-Sun.4th Nov.'07

Treforest were away to the much vaunted Merthyr side at Penydarren Park in the U18 South Wales Youth League.

After losing the home game 6-1 on the opening day of the season, Treforest put on a great display of attacking football which clearly suprised the team favoured to win the league.Treforest started very brightly and fought for every ball, while applying sustained pressure to their opponents back four.

The pressure paid off when Scott Badman scored from a Smith cross. Unfortunately Merthyr hit back soon after with a goal from Facey. Merthyr were now in buoyant mood and following a breakaway scored their second to put them 2-1 up at half time.

The second half saw Merthyr get an early 3rd goal, but the battling Treforest outfit replied with their second from Smith. After a superb save from Jason White, the Merthyr 'keeper released Griffiths who raced away to increase Merthyr's lead to 4-2. Treforest however, were showing immense spirit and after wave after wave of attacks Jamie White was pulled down in the box and Sam Long stepped up to make it 4-3.

Merthyr were now wilting under the sustained pressure from the away side and following good work down the left by White, Jordan Smith showed his pedigree by smashing the ball into the back of the net for a fine eaqualiser.

Sadly for the visitors ,football showed what a cruel game it can be, when with just 10 seconds left on the watch Merthyr were awarded a dubious corner from which Griffiths scored to give the hosts victory 5-4.

This was an excellent game of football, and with many of Treforest' lads only 16 years of age it augurs well for the remainder of the season and next year. Well done to all concerned

Under 12's CUP SEMI-FINAL v BTM

Taf Ely & Rhumney Valley League Cup Semi-FinalUnder 12's

Treforest FC 3 - BTM 1

Despite being beaten twice in the league by their challangers, BTM run Treforest close in this cup-tie to make it the thriller it deserved to be. Despite the home team starting strongly they were unable to breach the BTM defence, and as the game settled both sides managed openings which were denied only by fine defending and keeping.

Due to the commitment of both teams it was clear that only a moment of pure skill would break the deadlock and it was Treforest's Callum Holden who duly obliged when maintaining superb ball control in very difficult conditions to go one-on-one with the keeper and dispatch superbly into the corner of the net. Despite the set back BTM rallied well and put Treforest under a period of sustained pressure. Treforest maintained their resilience and the home keeper Sam Edwards, supported by a solid back four comprising of Ben Rowsell, Luke Rees, Connor Young and Lloyd Taylor steadied the ship with a two excellent saves from the BTM attack.

Treforest's trademark of swift passing play soon allowed them to get back on top and Josh Bakers neatly volleyed home from 15 yards to see them 2-0 up at the break.

The second half started in the same fashion but BTM took advantage of a midfield error and following a defence splitting pass, their centre forward ran in on goal to slot home with confidence. Spurred on by their goal BTM upped the pace, going close on a number of occasions and only a fine save from Sam Edwards and precise slick tackling from Ben Rowsell and Luke Rees saw them kept at bay.

As the game progressed Treforest showed why they are league leaders and began to play some inspirational football of their own. Central midfielders Callum Holden and Jack Elley carved a number of openings for centre forwards Tom Haggett and Luke Clarke, and only a strong BTM defence denied them their opportunities.

As Treforest pressed on for the win they created a real chance with 10 minutes to go, which was deflected wide. As the ball was whipped in from the resulting corner the skilful Treforest winger Rhys Boulderson found the ball drop to his feet and he coolly drove home to put the tie beyond doubt. This was an excellent game worthy of any semi-final and played in true cup spirit.

The victors Treforest now look to take on local rivals Cilfynydd in the final, in what promises to be a thriller.

U12's - Treforest versus Pheonix

Under 12's - Treforest 6 Pheonix 1

Following a 5 week break Treforest found themselves up against the only team who have beaten them this year.

After a good start, Pheonix struck the opener on 6 minutes following somefine interplay. With the Treforest back line turned the Pheonix attack put both centre halves under pressure and struck early to go one up.

Despite the setback Treforest continued to play neat football and were soon on level terms when Tom Haggett broke from midfield to beat the impressive visiting keeper.

Treforest continued in search of goals and were rewardedwith two in quick succession. First went to Callum Holden dispatching low to the keepers left, followed by a class strike from Josh Bakers to go to the break 3-1.

Despite a spirited performance from Pheonix, the second half saw Treforest dominate and turn their possession into goals. Strikes from Luke Clarke (2) and Callum Holden saw the home team run out deserved 6-1 victors.

All eyes now turn to Treforest's League Cup semi-Final with BTM at the WhiteTips Stadium this coming Saturday 12pm Kick-off.

Treforest U13's 1 - Cascade 3

Treforest U13's 1 v 3 Cascade YC
Saturday 2nd February 2007
League Fixture

Today’s game proved to be a tough test for the Treforest U13's. Cascade were a very well drilled side and looked sharp and keener to win the match from the opening minutes. Treforest battled well in the first half and took a 1.0 lead into half time, with Callum Riella scoring on abreak out from the midfield. Goal keeper Cai Morgan kept the Treforest side in the game with several clearances to keep Cascade at bay.

The second half proved too tough for a battling Treforest team with Cascade scoring three times to take all three points. The boys know they played under par and will, I'm sure, look to bounce back and prove to themselves how well they can play as a team.

U13's Treforest 3 v 0 AFC Dragons

Treforest U13's 3 v 0 AFC Dragons

Saturday 27th January 2007 ( League Fixture )

The Under 13's played thier first game for three weeks, so all the boys were keen to get back playing again, if a little rusty. The game began with both sides playing some atractive football and creating some good chances, neither side unfortunately able to finish them off, the first half came to a close with the scores remaining 0.0.

The second half began much as the first had finished, with some excellent moves and skillful football being played by both the Dragons and Treforest, the Dragons coming closest when a fine shot struck the Treforest post and came back out to be cleared by the excellent Treforest defensive four. Then came the breakthrough, Treforest broke from the back and the midfield moved the ball quickly, with Nathen Warren finding the net to break the deadlock. The Dragons continued to battle and made the Treforest 11 work hard for everything, the second and decisive goal came midway through the second half with George Daly shooting from outside the box and the ball squeezing through a crowded penalty box to find the back of the net. Treforest were now playing some very good football and making the Dragons work hard to regain possession, Treforest put the game beyond doubt when George Daly chipped the Dragons goal keeper to make the final score 3.0.

Credit should go to both side for a great game of football and the referee, Alan Griffiths, who although having little to do, enjoyed the game as much as the large number of supporters from both sides.

Well done to the under 13's ALL of you played as we now you can, and you fully deserved the win.

U17's - Treforest 6 - Llantwit Fardre 1

Under 17s Treforest 6 - Llantwit Fardre 1

In Treforests first game for 2 months they entertained Llantwit Fardre at the White Tips stadium and a dogged Llantwit made them work hard for the 3 points especially in the first half.
Treforest took the lead when Scott Armitage put in an excellent strike which left the keeper with no chance.

Treforest further increased their lead to 6 with an hattrick a piece from Armitage and Lian Davies before Llantwit got a consolation.

Girls Under 11's Matches 21.01.07 & Tour News

After almost an eight week break, the girls played 5 games in the Engine House, Dowlais on Sunday against Caerphilly Cavaliers and Pant & Dowlais. (Thanks to Paul and Wendy for letting us use the Engine House - yet again!!)

The girls all played well, if a little rusty.. losing two and drawing three. With some fine goal keeping from Ella Cooks and strong midfield play from Danielle Annereau.

Good luck to the Cooks family who have been a part of the girls team since the Summer, as they are moving out of the area - Ella and Thea will be missed. Also thanks to Neil who has given us a tremendous amount of help with the coaching. The Cooks have left us a wonderful memento in the form of the "Cooks Cup", which will be presented to the player of the month.

Congratulations to Caitlin Woodland who Neil chose as this months player of the month, based on her performance on Sunday.

A tour is currently being organised in April to Brean Sands. For any information about this contact Rona or Andrew on the usual number.
